Our June event takes us to Gorbio – which is a perched hill village inland from Menton on the Cote d’Azur. The views from around the village are very attractive and as well as the valley itself, you can see out across to the Mediterranean. As with the other perched villages in this region of Provence it is the stunning location of Gorbio that is a large part of the attraction. The cobbled narrow streets and ancient houses winding through Gorbio make it a very pleasant place to explore with some lovely covered passageways and tiny open squares to discover.
We will have an English-speaking Guide – Magali Calcagno – who knows the village well and she will escort you to all the interesting places in this gem of an old French village. There is a church, two chapels, a chateau and a museum.
There are many olive trees all around the village and in the main square of Gorbio is an unusual feature of a splendid elm tree with an enormous trunk which is said to be 300 years old and is now officially listed as one of the most remarkable trees in France. Naturally the town is very proud of it.
As you arrive in the village square of Gorbio, the restaurant “Le Beau-Sejour” offers a coffee or drink of your choice.
Following your tour of the village we will have a reception at the same restaurant – “Le Beau-Sejour”- well recommended for its excellent reputation and fine cuisine. This restaurant is owned by the fourth generation of the Bracco family and offers beautifully-presented and expertly prepared dishes from their own family recipes which rival anything you would find in other fine restaurants on the Cote d’Azur. Your hosts will be the current owner, Yvan Bracco and his wife Naila, in the kitchen.
Price: Members 59 Euros, Guests 69 Euros.
Times: 10.30 at Gorbio; 11am Guided tour; 12 noon Reception; 12.30 lunch.
Important: Please confirm your reservation as soon as possible, but no later than Monday 5th June, unless sold out before. Previously our events have been sold out prior to the final date. Without payment your reservation cannot be confirmed. There will be no payments accepted in Gorbio. Cancellations past 5th June are not refundable.
