Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here, at Berkeley Books of Paris, on March 6th. We are hoping there will be many lovers of books and poetry out there who would like to share this address with us -- the members of the Commune Adresse Collective -- for a multilingual reading, commemorating the victims of the attack that destroyed, 11 years ago, the booksellers' street in Baghdad.
Similar readings will be taking place in other cities around the world: poets and artists keep responding to violence by written and spoken words. The project, launched by a San Francisco poet and bookseller, Beau Beausoleil, gave rise to an anthology of poetry (https://www.worldliteraturetoday.org/2013/september/al-mutanabbi-street-starts-here) and to a rich collection of art prints (https://ulib.iupui.edu/collections/AMSSH)
Our special guest for the Paris reading will be Marilyn Hacker, poet and translator who never ceases to work in order to make Arabic-language poetry available to an international public.

La rue al-Mutanabbi commence ici, à la librairie Berkeley Books of Paris, le 6 mars. Ce sera notre Commune adresse (comme par hasard, nom de notre collectif) pour une soirée multilingue de poésie dédiée à la mémoire des victimes d'un attentat qui, il y a onze ans, a détruit la rue des libraires à Bagdad.
Des événements similaires ont lieu ailleurs dans le monde, chaque année: poètes et artistes continuent à répondre à la violence par leurs écrits, par leur parole. L'année dernière, la lecture parisienne se tenait à la librairie Libre Ère.

Nous aurons le plaisir d'avoir parmi nous, ce 6 mars, Marilyn Hacker, poète et traductrice, collaboratrice de l'anthologie, qui ne cesse d'œuvrer afin de rendre accessible aux lecteurs anglophones et francophones la poésie de langue arabe.
