IAAC > Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia and the Advanced Master Design By Data (École des Ponts ParisTech) are partnering for IaaC Global Summer School 18 in Paris!

Some students from the AM Design by Data will be participating in GSS18 in Paris as a continuation of their course "From Data to Information" led by Noumena, and embbed in the ROMI [Robotics in Microfarm] EU funded project led by Noumena, IaaC and the Sony Computer and Science Laboratory.

The paradigm of mixed cities has transformed the urban environment in spaces for interaction, work, culture, food production, energy collection.
Cities are playing a major role in the transformation of politics, in the configuration of a new role of citizenship, multicultural and hyperconnected. Urban habitats are becoming accelerators of economical, social and environmental changes that are already defining the Global Agenda of the World. Defining a strategy for production and manufacturing however, still plays a minor role in Cities and has been systematically disregarded by planners for years. Ironically, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reports that 800 million people worldwide grow vegetables or fruits or raise animals in cities, producing an astonishing 15 to 20 percent of the world’s food.

How can we define a real strategy for the implementation of urban agriculture?
How technology can drive this change, turning public spaces into productive environments empowered by sensors and robotic mechanism monitoring the context?

In the context of the Fab City Summit Paris - FAB14 Plus, organized by the Fab city grand paris Association, the Fab City Global Initiative, and the Mairie de Paris, the IAAC GSS18 – Paris is proposing a hands-on program, implementing real strategies activating public spaces, proposing solutions for food production and energy collection. During the course, students will digitally and physically shape a urban orchard in the iconic Parc de la Villette in Paris, adopting computation and robotics to define performative configurations, increasing and controlling qualitative and quantitative crops.

Aldo Sollazzo, director of IAAC Global Summer School, faculty Design By Data, co-director of the new Master of Robotics and Advanced Construction at IAAC and Member of Advanced Architecture Lab, will be leading GSS18 in Paris.

Adrien Rigobello, academic coordinator of Design By Data, will be co-teaching GSS18 in Paris.

Des étudiants du MS Design by Data participeront à la GSS18 dans la continuation de leur cours "From Data to Information" dispensé par Noumena, et inclus dans le projet européen ROMI [Robotics in Microfarm] dirigé par Noumena, l'IaaC et le Sony Computer and Science Laboratory.

Le paradigme des villes hybrides a transformé l'environnement urbain en espaces pour l'interaction, le travail, la culture, la production de nourriture et la production d'énergie. Les villes jouent un rôle majeur dans la transformation des politiques publiques et dans la configuration d'un nouveau rôle de la citoyenneté, multiculturelle et hyper-connectée. Les habitats urbains deviennent des accélérateurs des changements économiques, sociaux et environnementaux ; des phénomènes qui définissent une urgence globale pour le monde. Cependant, les stratégies industrielles et de production ne jouent qu'un rôle mineur dans les Villes, et ont été systématiquement négligées par les plans urbanistiques pendant des années. Ironiquement, l'Organisation des Nations unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture (FAO) nous rapporte que 800 millions de personnes dans le monde font pousser des fruits et légumes ou élèvent des animaux en ville - équivalant à 15-20% de la production mondiale de nourriture.

Comment pouvons nous définir une vraie stratégie pour l'implémentation de l'agriculture urbaine ?
Comment la technologie peut mener ce changement, transformant les espaces publiques en environnement productifs facilités par des capteurs et mécanismes robotisés ?

Dans le contexte du Fab City Summit de Paris et de FAB14, organisé par l'association Fab City Grand Paris, la Fab City Global Initiative et la Mairie de Paris, l'IaaC Global Summer School 18 - Paris propose une Summer School pratique, implémentant des stratégies réelles pour activer les espaces publiques, proposant des solutions pour la production de nourriture et d'énergie. Pendant cette Summer School, les étudiants vont façonner numériquement et physiquement un verger urbain dans le superbe Parc de la Villette à Paris, en adoptant l'informatique et la robotique pour définir et optimiser les configurations productive, et contrôler la qualité et la performance des plantations.
