Alkyne metathesis has become a thriving field of research, with a growing number of welldefined molybdenum- and tungsten-alkylidyne complexes available as highly efficient catalysts. In contrast, the metathesis of conjugated diynes has been much less studied, and early catalysts showed a surprising selectivity towards diyne-to-diyne interconversion, while the expedient synthesis of conjugated triynes by diyne disproportionation has only recently been uncovered with exceptionally high yields of conjugated triynes reported for a new family of catalysts of the MoSiF9 type.
