Face aux incertitudes politiques actuelles, précisément entre deux tours, un atelier est organisé dans l’espace d’exposition de Bétonsalon, prenant appui sur le mobilier spécialement pensé pour l’exposition d’Emmanuelle Lainé. A partir d’une sélection de livres issus de la librairie Colophon et de la bibliothèque Shared Letters hébergée à Bétonsalon et conçue par Katinka Bock, l’atelier Tentative d’épuisement d’une impossible théorie* propose une théorisation (du moins sa tentative) par l’action de la lecture ou de l’usage individuel des livres d’artistes. Une manière de révéler à l’échelle individuelle un large champ des possibles.
L’atelier est pensé comme un espace public oppositionnel (Oskar Negt, L’espace public oppositionnel, Payot, 2007) durant lequel les acteurs sont invités à réfléchir aux modes d’appropriation intellectuels et matériels des livres mis en commun pour l’occasion. Dans un souci d’éco-système propre à l’atelier, et dans un souci d’économie de moyens, les acteurs/participants sont invités à apporter tout matériel d’enregistrement et de publication permettant de proposer des manières de manipuler un livre : imprimante, papier, appareil photo, enregistreur vocal, ordinateur, …

A propos de Colophon :
Colophon est une librairie semi-itinérante dédiée à l’auto-édition et l’édition indépendante en arts visuels portée par Frédéric Blancart. A l’instar de la définition du terme dans le vocabulaire éditorial, Colophon propose un point de vue panoramique, en constant développement, sur la pratique éditoriale dans le domaine des arts visuels. Depuis son ouverture en novembre 2016, Colophon organise des rencontres publiques à Mains d’Œuvres (Saint-Ouen) au cours desquelles artistes, éditeurs et curateurs sont invités à discuter et débattre des enjeux esthétiques et économiques dans le domaine de la micro-édition.

Facing the political uncertainties of our time in a period preceding elections, a workshop will take place within the exhibition space of Bétonsalon – Center for Art and Research. It will build on the pieces of furniture displayed in Emmanuelle Lainé’s installation. Starting from a selection of books coming from Colophon and from Katinka Bock’s Shared Letters (a collection of books hosted by Bétonsalon) the workshop “Attempting to exhaust an impossible theory*” offers (an attempt of) theorization through several actions, such as reading or the individual use of artists’ books. We aim at unveiling a broad field of possibilities at an individual scale.

This workshop has been thought as an oppositional public space (Oskar Negt, L’espace public oppositionnel, Payot, 2007) during which participants will be invited to think of ways of appropriating books that will be shared on this occasion. So as to create a specific eco-system based on sharing, participants are asked to bring recording and/or publishing devices allowing them to interact with books: printers, paper, cameras, voice recorders, computers, and so on.

About Colophon:
Colophon is a semi-itinerant library dedicated to self and independent publishing in the field of visual art. The project is carried by Frédéric Blancart. As expressed by the word “Colophon”, our project aims at providing a panoramic view of editorial practices in visual arts. Since its opening in 2016, Colophon organized public discussions at Mains d’Oeuvres (Saint-Ouen) during which artists, editors and curators were invited to discuss and debate aesthetic and economic issues regarding micro-editions.
